Explore a possible effect
How might that choice shape a reader’s response? Consider the context before making a claim about its effect.
Connect detail to meaning
Explain how the evidence supports your interpretation. A useful starting phrase is: “This choice suggests … because …”
Test your interpretation
Can you find a second detail that supports your reading? Is there evidence that complicates it? Revise your idea if necessary.
